Sacagawea with Two Kids

Want to feel like an absolute beast? Carry your almost 2 year old up Sacagawea with your 5 year old who is eager to bag her 2nd peak of summer trailing along. While only 4.8 miles this has 1984 feet of elevation gain. I post these adventures in hopes to inspire more families to get outside or try even if it isn’t this extreme. It wasn’t easy and I will not pretend that it was.

My then 2yr old half tolerated the pack, the 5yr old decided she was still fatigued from her last epic summit but that maybe the potential of seeing mountain goats was still worth it so we kept going. There was complaining and the steep pass was not the favorite but she chose to go on with the knowledge it was nothing like Ross was.

We ran into quite a few other families who were shocked I wasn’t with my husband and having him carry her up the mountain. He was at work and we had a good weather window. After a snack we continued on to hear that there was a lot of goats up there. The excitement got more profound to actually summit. The 2yo hiked some at this point then jumped back in to do the last leg which is quite steep.

Unfortunately the mountain goats were guarding the summit fully and we weren’t able to go the last few feet but we got a great view of the goats and everyone was happy. The way down was easy enough and uneventful as it was all down hill. This is one of the best Summits surrounding Bozeman. If you ever want to try, I’m always down to go. I like to go once a year.
